Blazingstar Pottery is located among the hills of southeastern Minnesota. I hope this blog will record my trials and experiments. I’m interested in the way natural elements can react with heat and leave footprints on the clay. I like clay for the ability to have an effect on the final piece at so many different stages of the piece. I primarily use red stoneware and fire to cone 6 (2200 degrees F). All my glazes are food safe, and each pieces is microwave, dishwasher and oven safe.
I have a full-time job with a local garden center overseeing the tree and shrub section and sketching small landscape designs. Unfortunately, this means I don’t have a lot of time I can spend working in the studio. I try to make time at night and on weekends, and whenever I have a free day from work. This haphazard schedule creates haphazard pieces – but I’m fine with that, it allows me a way to play and create.
I am also addicted to soccer, and follow the Blackburn Rovers from England, and the NSC Minnesota Stars and the local amateur team, the Rochester Thunder. Well, I’m basically a big sports nut, and follow the Twins and Vikings too, but my obsession is clearly soccer. In fact, I like to amuse the area soccer players by trying to play pick-up soccer on Saturday mornings.
I have signed to join the class starting Oct 17 at 6PM. I was pretty excited to discover your studio.
I know what the address is, could you tell me some things to look for when I get on Gold street. Per Streets and Trips, you are close to where 80 turns and leaves town. Are you on the left or right side of the street if I am going north, do you have a sign or lettering on a front window I would look for?
See you Sunday.
