bowls bowls bowls

I had a full day to work in the studio, so I made full use of it.  I made a smattering of bowls and threw in a few mugs for good measure.  It was a good exercise for me to try to repeat throw and try to throw the same shape many times.  I thought this batch turned out pretty consistent.

I enjoy spending a full day in the studio because it allows me to work on the pieces as they dry.  The bowls need to dry a couple hours before trimming, the mugs need to dry a couple hours before attaching handles, etc.  Finishing pieces over a couple of days is a little trickier for me. One thing I want to work on is decorating pieces once they’re finished.  I have all these bowls and mugs, and I want to make them a little more personal.  That is probably the thing I am struggling with the most when I work on my own pieces.  I want to work on my technique, but when I do that I lose a little of my artistic inclination.  And I feel if I don’t work on my technique first, I will be personalizing rather unimpressive pieces.  I guess part of it is I have to feel more confident with my own work.

Spring is definitely upon us (it is now over 70 degrees here in Minnesota – in March!  Also,  I guess this was the first March on record that we never received any snow…odd stat).  My little flower garden is going crazy – crocus is blooming fully, squill is about to open, and a few perennials are starting to sprout.  I officially start work on Monday so my time in the studio will be seriously limited.  I am determined to get time to work in the studio, even if it is only an hour or two at a time.  I am very excited for this summer and think it will be a lot of fun!
