I made a few plates last night while my wife was teaching music lessons. I didn’t have a lot of time but I was still able to turn out six plates. I think I was lacking in plates – I don’t enjoying throwing plates very much, and I decided to try making some plates out of slabs. I enjoyed that a lot more, so I will have to see how these turn out when finished and maybe I will just make them like this.
I had to do a little finishing touches on them this morning but otherwise I think they have turned out pretty nice so far. I can’t wait to see how they glaze!
I threw a few more bowls and jars today, trying out a couple new things I’m playing with. I had been a couple weeks since I’d thrown so it felt good to be working on the wheel again. I’m trying to brush up on my lid skills and hopefully get some nice figures worked out.
I’ve started throwing with a rib a bit more than I have in the past (mainly because I just got a really nice plastic flexible rib) and has allowed me to work with different shapes.
I’m still doing a lot of experimenting when I throw. I don’t feel that I have a certain style or anything, and I’m trying to figure out what my style is. I think it will take some time to figure it out since I’m just working on the wheel in my spare time. However, I’m having a lot of fun playing with the clay!
Well, I got my computer back the beginning of May, but it took a few weeks to transfer all my files over and install programs onto it. I think I know have most of it transferred over. My computer crashed at the same time I found and started a new job, which has meant I’ve been very busy. However, I have found time to work in the studio and have had a few people come in for studio time. I thought I post some photos just to update what I’ve been up to the past couple months.
I’m hoping to get a some pieces glazed and fired over the next week and a half since I might try selling a few of my pieces at Steamboat Days in Winona. I think I have enough pieces already but I’d like to have a bit better selection. I’ll be busy working until then!
